Indianapolis

Indianapolis is the state capital for Indiana. It is home to the 2006 Super Bowl Champions the Indianapolis Colts, the men’s basketball team the Indiana Pacers, and women’s basketball team the Indiana Fever. It is also home to many other sites and attractions, including The Indianapolis Motor Speed Way, where the Indy-500 race takes place. There are many museums and historical sites including The Children’s Museum in downtown Indianapolis, The James Whitcomb Riley Museum, the President Benjamin Harrison home, Scottish Rite Cathedral, and the USS Indianapolis Memorial. If you go at specific times of the year, you will get to see the festivals that take place in Indianapolis like the Indy Jazz Fest, the Indiana State Fair, or the Heartland Film Festival. In downtown Indianapolis there is the Circle Center Mall, Colonel Eli Lily Civil War Museum, and The Indianapolis Convention Center.

There is also the Slippery Noodle Inn. No it is not an actual inn, it is actually a blues bar and restaurant with 2 stages and is located in downtown. The Slippery Noodle has the honor of being the oldest operating bar in Indianapolis and served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Even in the 1920s it called itself a restaurant however they still served beer during the prohibition. It also served as a brothel until the 50s.

If you enjoy gardens and are in the Indy area, go to the Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Gardens. It has 3 acres of gorgeous outdoor gardens and 10,000 square feet conservatory. It has everything from tree frogs to exotic plants and flowers including orchids and bromeliads. The gardens have bricked walk ways, benches, and waterfalls. The beaty in the park is breath-taking and you will truly want to make this a stop on your trip.
